Sunrise Earth

Sunrise Earth
On most mornings, daybreak happens in the background. Some people sleep through it, others rush through their morning routine without noticing the moment that the sun rises over the horizon. See what you've missed as Discovery HD presents the premiere of Sunrise Earth. This special presentation - exclusive to Discovery HD - features three one-hour specials capturing the drama and beauty of daybreak as never before. Produced in stunning High Definition, each episode of Sunrise Earth chronicles one continuous hour of dawn - without narration, music, or quick edits - in some of the most scenic locations on Earth. Explore the tranquility and restorative power of the natural world as Sunrise Earth moves from darkness to light. The three episodes featured in the evening's event are "Katmai Bears, Alaska," a charming look at bear cubs awakening after hibernation; "Greatest Hits East," a compilation of the most stunning sunrise locations along the east coast of North America; and "Greatest Hits West," a "best of" look at the most picturesque dawns in the American west.

Episodes highlights include:

Sunrise Earth: "Katmai Bears, Alaska"They've had seven months of sleep, but now the world's largest population of unhunted brown bears is ready for the sun. They begin the early morning in the meadow, playing and grazing on the high protein remnants from the tide. A three-year-old cub searches for Mom as the sun rises. When the tide drops, clams and the first tasty salmon of the season are revealed. As the bears stake out their spot on the beach, two males posture for status, a young cub nurses and adolescents chase each other for kilometres.

Sunrise Earth: "Greatest Hits East"The sun hits the Atlantic seaboard five hours after the western coast of Europe, and a wide range of habitats begin the shift from the cool nocturnal stillness of the night to the warmth and activity of the day. This episode captures the transition of dawn, from the sub-tropical ecosystem of the Everglades and the northern lakes of New England, to the very first light atop Cadillac Mountain in Maine and the sabal palms of the Gulf of Mexico. These are great sunrise moments in nearly a dozen morning ecosystems of the east.

Sunrise Earth: "Greatest Hits West"Crossing the North American continent in just four hours, daybreak settles on the Great Plains, the Rocky Mountains, the coastal ranges and beaches of California before departing the western shore. Witness the sunlit beauty of Yellowstone geysers, herds of horses and bison on the open range, the spectacular lighting of the Teton Range. Then in California, see the sun rise above the massive sequoia, tule elk, a rainbow of wildflowers, the Yosemite Valley and elephant seals on the beach. Featuring nearly a dozen locales, these are the greatest sunrises in the American west.

I got an HD TV for Christmas and signed on to DirecTV for their HD channels. I found Sunrise Earth soon after, and have been hooked ever since. I hope this program continues, and wouldn't mind repeats to catch up on episodes I missed. I record the shows every weekday to watch when I get home from work. It's a great way to de-stress for anyone who can't watch early in the morning. I also want more new episodes, especially in the USA. How about doing sunrises at all our National Parks and Monuments? That's a treasure trove of opportunities there to add to the existing episodes.

GREETINGS!

What a disappointment it was to tune in to Discovery HD this week @ 7AM and find that the sun was no longer rising ...literally...
PLEASE, PLEASE bring back Sunrise Earth! It is truly a magnificent program to which my wife & I always looked forward over morning coffee. We feel cheated out of that little chunk of Serenity with which to start off a new day...

I saw just a little of the Elephant Trunk episode and really liked what I saw. Will it be on tv again? And, if so, when?

Hi, I love this program. I watch it every morning over a cup of tea as i get ready for my day. It is like a meditation!

This week I noticed that the Comcast Channel guide listed the series as SunRides Earth. At first I thought this was an input error. But after watching two days in a row, it occurred to me, the name change may reflect a change in format.

Both today's and yesterday's episodes (dated 2009) were filmed from a moving vehicle --one on land and one on water. There were several problems with this -- first the scene moved way too fast. Second, the sounds of nature were partly occluded by the movement of the vehicle or air passing over the microphone or both.

The whole beauty of this program for me is the slow, natural world style that it incorporates into its production. Its like being in & with nature every morning. I don't like the vehicle based filming. Iliek the slong still shots and the slow pans of the earlier seasons.

Both of these episodes featured a Goggle map box with info on the scene being viewed. I liked the idea but i don't really need a map when watching this kind of program and the type in the box was too small to read from across the room. I have a 27" HD TV and rarely have trouble reading other type onthe screen. So, I think this is just too small.

I hope you can integrate this feedback in to your plans going forward. Thank you for the beautiful images and being a place on tv where the editting doesn't make my eyes hurt.
